Arizona Trail
Explore Arizona from Mexico to Utah
“Dudley” hiked 430 of the 1300 km of the Arizona Trail – about ⅓ – in the spring of 2025. He was forced to leave the trail for personal reasons. Perhaps he will complete it next year. Stay tuned for videos on youtube, in the meantime he can be followed on Instagram.
The Trail
The Arizona National Scenic Trail is a complete non-motorized path from Mexico to Utah, stretching 1300 diverse kilometre across Arizona to link deserts, mountains, canyons, forests, history, communities and diverse peoples.
The southern terminus was at the Arizona / Mexican border.
The Plan
The plan was to hike the total 1300 km of the AZT in 6 weeks. Mails drops were shipped and break days were planned. Yet like all thru-hikes… plans changed.
The Adventure
Big miles, limited water, crazy temperatures and the unforgiving sun challenges most. Yet there was always time for joy.
Beauty
The desert of arizona was both harsh and beautiful. The morning sunrise was always the highlight of each day.
Camping
There are no designated campsites throughout the AZT, but there are generally lots of great flat spots for tents or cowboy camping. Don’t bring a hammock, there are few trees!
Good Times
Because of personal issues, Dudley was forced off trail at Superior AZ. He did complete ⅓ of the trail totally 430 kms.
Dudley’s AZT Gear
Dudley spends countless hours researching and testing gear in order to get the “perfect” kit tailored for each adventure. Dudley’s gear is constantly evolving as new equipment is designed, innovative fabrics are invented and camping styles change.
Dudley did learn that some of his gear choices were not ideal for the unique and challenging environment of the Arizona desert. He switched his inflatable sleeping pad for a closed cell pad after 3 punctures in the first week caused by sneaky thorns & needles.

5 Episodes
Even though Dudley didn’t complete the AZT, his attempt was still recorded and youtube videos are coming soon
