This is a gentle reminder.
The winter is still young…toddler young. My telly boards are still rust-free and razor-sharp, the wax is still abundant on my cross-country planks, the snow shoes haven’t even touched the snow, and my winter camping gear is still virgin.
I know all too well that it’s difficult to think about the summer with so much winter recreation still ahead of us… but now is the time!
I must first admit that some of my best adventures have been on the fly. These last-minute ad-hoc expeditions, only a few moments before launching our aging Subaru on the highway stuffed with gear and granola…have been some of our best trips! Being spontaneous can be great for most trips…however, that being said…some of the most iconic trips are in high-demand locales and now is the time to plan. If you are too late… you will have to wait until next year.
Things to consider:
- All quality trippers and expeditors book up fast…particularly with the most popular adventures. Call now!
- Many governments restrict access to certain destinations. Kilimanjaro, Denali, Everest (years in advance)….etc. They all need approval well in advance,
- Flights book up fast. Particularly to northern and unique destinations,
- If you are planning to use “air miles”, “Aeroplan” or other reward programs to book your flights, there are often limited sits,
- If you are travelling to a location where a firearm is required for animal defence…it will take time to get the permits,
- Air travel regulations restrict certain items you could need. So they will need to be shipped ahead of time by land transport. These items can include; stoves, fuel, bear bangers, etc.
- Many destinations have limited starts. Call now to book your place in line. Grand Canyon, West Coast Trail, Nahani, Chilkoot, etc.
- Some events have limited enrolment…such as bike tours, adventure races, and triathlons.
Make it quick for two reasons…first to secure your place in line… and second… so you will have more time to enjoy the awesome winter!
